Our Story

Where Himalayan Soul Meets Modern Craft

Born from a deep love of Nepalese culture and the art of slow food, 818 Lumu opened its doors in the heart of Thamel in 2012. We set out to create a space where traditional Nepalese flavors could coexist with the warmth of a modern specialty cafe.

Our kitchen follows the rhythms of the seasons and the highlands — every ingredient is handpicked, every recipe passed down through generations. We believe food is a bridge between cultures, and every bite at 818 Lumu is an invitation to understand Nepal a little more deeply.

Words from Our Table

Hear what food lovers and coffee enthusiasts say about the Lumuse experience.

The Thakali set is the best I've had outside of my grandmother's kitchen. Every flavor is so authentic and comforting. Lumuse feels like home.

I stumbled upon Lumuse during my Thamel walk and it completely transformed my understanding of Nepalese cuisine. The Himalayan coffee alone is worth a return visit.

The mo:mo here are incredible — delicate wrappers, perfectly spiced filling. The ambiance is cozy and the service is warm. My go-to spot every time I visit Kathmandu.
